Tylwyth – our Spirit Family
Tylwyth is the old Brythonic word for family; you’ve likely hear of it in Tylwyth Teg. Tylwyth Teg means the Fair Family and refers to the faer folk, they’re sometimes called Bendith y Mamau (Blessing of the Mothers) as they’re very tricksy, as all the best otherworldly (and thisworldly) teachers are, and that’s a very respectful way of speaking of them. The mythos tells us they’re known for their ethereal beauty, love of gold, and fear of iron – I’ll talk more about the fear of iron in another blog as it’s fascinating and has much to do with the stars and even astrophysics! But family, tylwyth … most folk want to belong, and belonging to one’s family is the first port of call here

But who are your spirit family, your tylwyth?
First off let me say they’re not too likely to be your blood relations. Blood is very good for genealogy, finding out about physical ancestors, medicine, stuff like that, but blood is made of molecules, that’s physical atoms stuck together. It’s not about the spirit relationships that bind us fa more deeply than blood ever can. Blood may be thicker than water but it falls apart far more quickly – and that’s just ordinary chemistry!
The spirit-threads that connect us to our fellow coworkers across the worlds is stronger that spider-silk. This threads go back to forever, time out of mind. I won’t say to the beginning of time as I’m pretty sure time never had a beginning, and that’s even upsetting and challenging the Big Bang theory and entropy. Aside: I get to hear about and learn these things as I’m wed to a particle physicist who’s also on his spirit-path and we’re part of the same spirit family 😊So, your spirit family is the Gang (as Dad used to call them) that you’ve been working with since forever. Many folk nowadays don’t know this, modern life and the crud taught by the age of enlightenment have fairly successfully told everyone that all that stuff is superstition, cannot be proved by science and therefor does not exist. For me that’s a complete fallacy of logic, for instance at the beginning of the 20th century nobody believed you could split an atom; that idea went out the window with Sir Ernest Rutherford when he achieved the first artificial nuclear reaction by splitting a nitrogen atom with alpha particles back in 1919. John Stuart Bell, back in the 1960s, developed the idea of quantum entanglement that shows that faster-than-light communication is real and we now use it in modern computing.
So I suggest we don’t yet have the tools and skills and mindsets to know how to scientifically show the faer folk are as real as the atom, and take all that “superstition” crap with half a ton of salt. My point being that, as Gershwin said in Porgy and Bess, “the things that you’re liable to read in the bible it ain’t necessarily so”. Whatever your particular bible is always remember that!
Your tylwyth are real, they’re there, and they would love to get connected consciously with you again. You have been before, in other lives you don’t remember right now, and you can be again. I thoroughly recommend it, it’s great fun, they’re cool guys, and they can help you be your real, authentic self and live the life that makes your heart sing. That’s part of how I got hooked up with the mad scientist I wedded! My students find this for themselves too, wonder how they ever managed before they reconnected with their tylwyth; find solutions for challenges, alternative paths than those people told them were best for them, and never feel they’re alone, that they have nobody to turn to when they feel stuck or down.
That’s huge. And that’s what real family is all about. Your tylwyth are always there for you. they’re very good at tough love, won’t let you get away with shilly-shallying and excuses, will always hold you to be your honest self, especially with yourself. But they’re there, they give you real strong support that enables you to find the way through challenges. Perhaps the most terrifying thing to me would be the thought that one day they weren’t there, but I know that’s garbage and just not possible.
🔸 Do you want to get connected with you tylwyth? I’ll be blogging and talking about lots more on Phoenix Rising, it’s a big part of Alchemy, so get signed up there and you’ll hear about all my podcasts, webinars, talks and Q&As there. They’ll help you connect with your tylwyth.
See you on the other side 😊
