This work can be highly challenging and is not suitable for everyone. I assess suitability individually, taking into account whether someone can engage safely and effectively with the nature and intensity of the work without requiring changes that would fundamentally alter the method.
This is what the Smith does. She transforms. She transmutes. She knows her metal. She learned her craft from the Earth Folk where she grew up. First she senses for the rock that holds the good ore deep within it, even though that lump of rock may not know it yet.
GET CONNECTED Then she heats the rock, burning off the outer layers that mask the ore within. What remains is the raw material from which the personality can be forged. And so you discover capacities and relationships you didn’t know you had.
DEER TRODS You and the smith together heat the metal and hammer it flat, fold it in half, quench it, and do it all over again, and again, and again. This forces out the remaining slag – the layers and skins of the masks you’ve had to wear – and so changes the structure of the personality to make it strong.
And you take all you’ve learned in Get Connected and here, out into the world, every day,and you test it, get things wrong successfully, and find out what holds. That is the heating, hammering and quenching you do on your own metal, refining your personality more and more.So your personality is forged.
